This entertainment center was built from solid pine, using clear pine for most of the exposed surfaces and allowing a few knots in the more hidden sections. The choices of common wood, simple lines, and lack of ornate decorations hint at Shaker influences.
Some of the contemporary touches include a smoke-glass door with magnetic catch for the electronic equipment, chrome drawer pulls, a black inlay detail around the base that gives a ‘floating’ sense to the piece, and a swing-out side door (originally for media storage, back when the world still used media). The overall asymmetry of the piece also adds to its modern feel.
As a side note, all four woodcarvings on the top of the entertainment center were also carved by The Old Man.
