I have tried really hard to like my iPad. I have come close. I have the Apple Magic Keyboard, the Apple Pencil, and even a third-party convertible keyboard+shell for it. None of them do what I really want.
So what do I really want? What are the features that would make the iPad perfect in my book?
- Charging via either USB-C or Qi induction
- Convertible operation – especially “lay-flat tablet” mode
- Improved retention for the Apple Pencil
- An accelerometer-triggered keyboard backlight that illuminates whenever you pick up the iPad – no more hitting a key at random just to see what you are doing
- A keyboard backlight with sensible timeout as well
- Expanded battery capacity
- An SD slot – because, digicams!
