3D-printable CNC hold-downs

CNC hold-downs

Additive and subtractive synthesis work together for this one – I used my Creality 3D printer to create a collection of hold-downs for my Shapeoko CNC. There’s nothing magic about those brands though – most likely you can use any 3D printer to fab these, and they will work with almost any CNC.

They are double-ended so that they will work with a variety of stock. The hold-downs you see pictured have a 3mm overhang on one end and a 6mm overhang on the other end. You can easily modify them to support any stock thicknesses you need – I’ll probably print a set of 12mm/18mm hold-downs before too long.

They’re designed for M6 hardware, but you can easily modify them for whatever you have on the bed of your CNC.

I printed these from TPU. They’re sacrificial – by which I mean that a cutter could roll right over one without serious harm. Of course I would not say that they are intended to be sacrificial – only that it’s no big deal if an alignment error eats one. Just go print another.
